Every well-cut component starts with a well-made die. At Harman, die-making has been part of our business since 1978 — today, our dies cut leather, synthetics, rubber, foam and technical fabrics for manufacturers across footwear, automotive, packaging and textiles.

## What is a cutting die?

A cutting die is a precision tool — typically a shaped steel rule or steel block set into a wooden or metal base — that is pressed through sheet material to cut a component to an exact shape, again and again, with no variation from piece to piece. Dies are used on clicker presses, beam presses and compatible dieless cutting systems, and are the reason a factory can cut hundreds of identical soles, uppers, gaskets or panels a day.
